Consultation of multilingual documents

Why is multilingual access to databases a major stake for companies?

At present, a company manages large quantities of specific documents (technical manuals, commercial documentation, etc.) in several working languages. We must therefore have a tool which enables us to find all such documents, whether they are in English, French or another language and whatever language in which the search is made. The increase in the volumes of information to be processed, due to the quantity of sources available, the wide range of internal requests and different language versions, makes the processing and management of information difficult and costly.

my-xML offers MyTerm© Enterprise, a tool for the interrogation of mono and/or multilingual contents. This product has the functional pluses which fit your needs.

MyTerm© Enterprise is a linguistic analysis engine which is used for the interrogation of monolingual and/or multilingual databases. The API is interconnected between the user interfaces and the databases to be consulted. MyTerm© Enterprise interfaces with all search engines or databases on the market (for example: Verity, Hummingbird, Oracle, MS-SQL, DB2…) and is easily integrated in the company's existing information systems.

MyTerm© Enterprise uses the following techniques for the analysis of queries:

  • Cross-language to enable users to find documents stored in different languages even if the language of the query is not one of the languages used in the documents. For example, from the query "olympic games", MyTerm© Enterprise can find documents which contain the words "jeux olympiques", "juegos olímpicos", etc.

  • Linguistic extension to enable users to find documents close to the terms of their query. This is possible thanks to the MyTerm© Enterprise vocabulary representation model which enables it to handle synonyms (Burgomaster => Mayor), acronyms (MRO => Maintenance and Repair Organisation…), associations of ideas (school => teacher), etc.

Thanks to the hierarchical and semantic organisation of the MyTerm© Enterprise vocabularies, it is possible to implement a user dialogue interface in order to:

  • Clarify a query: when you say 'JFK', are you looking for news concerning the airport or the person?
  • Specify a request: you are looking for information about the 'Cyclades', do you mean all the islands or some of those on the list below: Milos, Santorini, etc?
  • Extend a request: you are looking for documents concerning the 'Olympic Games', do you wish to extend your search to the Paralympic Games?

Linguistic resources

MyTerm© Enterprise is supplied with more than 35 000 concepts in five languages (Spanish, French, Italian, German and English). It is, of course, possible to add other languages.

Here, in brief, are a few important arguments which show why MyTerm© Enterprise is the most appropriate solution for improving access to your information:

  • Finding answers, even if the language of the user's query is different to those used in the documents
  • Avoiding "noise" (finding only relevant documents) and "silence" (suggesting documents close to the request)
  • Making the user ask the "right" questions
  • Classifying responses according to the "meaning" of the query and not according to the frequency of the words in the documents

By choosing MyTerm© Enterprise you will:
